OUR STORY
Lovingly Baked by Anthea was started in 2018 by Anthea Anderson. Living in the Grayshott / Haslemere area on the Surrey-Hampshire border for a number of years, Anthea noticed the area was lacking in any really unique and excellent quality artisan bakeries. During the pandemic of 2020 and 2021, word of her bakery’s crusty, flavourful “proper” bread spread like wildfire, and Anthea and her husband did over 1,100 deliveries to homes in the local area!
Meanwhile, work was starting to convert and refurbish a crumbling, old milking barn on the farm that she and her husband call home, so that she could have a base from which to run the bakery. A small retail section was added, which is now the bustling and friendly little shop at weekends.
We are extremely proud to have been awarded five Great Taste Awards by the Guild of Fine Food in the past three years. Our French Baguettes and Scandinavian-style Cinnamon Rolls both earned awards, and have gained (well-deserved!) huge popularity with our customers. Our Gingerbread earned an award too, and our super-cute Gingerbread Men can always be found on the shop shelves. At Christmas time our customers queue in the cold and the rain for our double-gold-award-winning Mince Pies, which are the best for miles and miles! Our most recent award is a double-gold star for our velvety, delectable Lemon Meringue Tart – one of our best-sellers.
Absolutely everything we sell in the bakery is handcrafted. The bread is made using sourdough starter and yeast, and undergoes 24-hr fermentation. All our puff pastry and shortcrust pastry is made by hand, as well as all the elements of all the tarts and cakes.
Anthea has trained extensively in chocolate work and makes all her own chocolate slabs, ganaches, filled bonbons, and orangettes. All jams and fruit preserves are made on site too, usually in the huge, vintage copper pot that hangs proudly from the wooden beams in the centre of the bakery.
